I am responsible for overseeing the in-house and external teams of software engineers and data engineers (consisting of more than 60 engineers), and providing leadership, vision, and direction for the software engineering organisation. I'm also responsible for recruiting, developing, and retaining talent. I also oversee the implementation of software engineering initiatives and am responsible for championing best practices and ensuring initiatives achieve business outcomes.

I was one of the Software Engineering Team Leads on the BBC iPlayer website. I was really proud to lead my team, especially since BBC iPlayer was named the number 1 UK online brand in 2018. I led a fantastic team of Software Engineers working on the iPlayer website, using various technologies, languages and frameworks. I had a particular interest and speciality in the accessibility of the site and running of A/B tests.

ArtDpt are a new company providing production design services for the live music and events industry. They wanted a modern and animated website to show-off the impressive range of services they offer.

The orchestra's director, Matthew O’Keeffe, got in touch to say they wanted a brand new website to replace their existing WordPress site. Matthew sent me their brand assets, asking for something "professional and engaging [...] which successfully portrays the kind of organisation our orchestra is". I created a design which the team were happy with, before building the new website from scratch, incorporating YouTube videos, mailing list functionality, a way to donate and details of upcoming gigs. I continue to update and manage the website on an ad-hoc basis.

I worked with [Vanita Barrett](https://vanitabarrett.co.uk) on this website to introduce her to a new React framework - Next.js. I wrote a script to extract the shop data from the Etsy API - this data then acts as the product catalogue. We worked together to ensure the website works across various devices and screen sizes, and to ensure that the website is accessible to as many people as possible.

Tacita had an existing website but it wasn't offering them what they needed including being GDPR compliant! I created a brand new website for Tacita, from scratch, designed similar to their existing website as they didn't want it to change too much for the users. I also built a custom content management system to allow Tacita to make their own changes to the main website content, without the needed for any HTML knowledge.

Castle Street Clinic had an existing WordPress site built by someone else, but it wasn't offering the customisability they were after. In addition, it was not fully responsive and had various accessibility issues. I built a brand new site from scratch, in-corporating parts they liked about the old site whilst making it accessible (score of 100 on Lighthouse) and designed just as the client wanted. The other two clinics in the chain have their own website too, making use of the same design template. I also built a custom content management system to allow my client to make their own changes to the main website content, without the needed for any HTML knowledge. I continue to update and manage the website on an ad-hoc basis.

Siyan had an existing website but decided it was time to bring a fresh new look to the website to bring it inline with the company's branding. With the design support of [Vanita Barrett](https://vanitabarrett.co.uk), I created a brand new site, built from scratch using React and NodeJS, to create a modern accessible visual responsive site fit for 2020! I continue to update and manage the website on an ad-hoc basis.

Siyan needed to update their paper-based timesheets system and wanted something that could run on tablets at the office & warehouse front-doors. I designed a web app to run on their Android tablets, which allows staff to sign in and out and see who else is signed in. It also hooks up to a secure website which allows the Siyan management to automatically generate timesheets.

Paul Burch, musical director and band leader, had hosted a static WordPress site with me for several years but in 2019, decided it was time to bring a fresh new look to the website to bring it inline with the band's branding. With the design support of [Vanita Barrett](https://vanitabarrett.co.uk), I set about creating a brand new site, built from scratch using React and NodeJS to create a modern responsive site fit for 2019! I continue to update and manage the website for Paul, on an ad-hoc basis.

University of Surrey Students' Union were after an information screen showing the availability of their staff, to make it easier for students to know if they're around. [FdK Design Consultants](https://www.fdk.co.uk/) provided a design and I turned it into a working webpage. It uses an open-source library to connect to Exchange Web Services to source the information.

Having struggled with a WordPress site and forking out money regularly for a plugin to enable online purchasing, NACSA were after a simpler and cheaper way to do things. I was tasked with creating a new website with a similar design to the old one, but that was far easier to use and didn't have annual costs for online purchases. I created a new responsive website with a fully custom content management system that makes making changes to the site really easy. I also integrated it with PayPal to allow them to take payments for items and membership.

We worked closely with the business owner, Calvin, to ensure the design matched his corporate branding and to ensure that it launched on time before his new restaurant opened!

The society committee asked me and [Vanita Barrett](https://www.vanitabarrett.co.uk) to create a new website for the society after their Webmaster left. They were after a more modern feel, whilst ensuring the website is easy to use. The website was fully custom-built and includes a custom content management system with PayPal integration, to allow the committee to update the content on the site and add new events and programmes for sale.

During my time as a Graduate Software Developer at BBC, I spent 1 month with the BBC News Apps team, working on a proof of concept prototype of a brand new feature. I also helped to fix some bugs and make tweaks and enhancements to the user experience.

Mark is a freelance production technician who required a relatively simple but responsive website to show his work and skills, and wanted the website quickly. He had no design, but did have a list of websites that he liked. We worked together to quickly build a MVP website and have since continued to add new features, including a content management system.

Tease, a monthly event at University of Surrey Students' Union (USSU) run by the LGBT+ student society, wanted to bring a fresh new look to the website, so commissioned me to sparkle it up! With some clever jQuery, heavy use of the Facebook Graph API and some responsive SCSS that makes it smartphone and tablet friendly, this has been my favourite website project so far! USSU have since rebranded the event through an external promoter.

In my year as Webmaster at GU2 Radio, whilst holding down a full-time job on work placement, I made a brand new website for the student radio station, developed over 3.5 months. Feedback included "It is 100% better! It's so much friendlier looking and user-friendly" and "It looks AMAZING!". With tons of behind-the-scenes logic ensuring only the most relevant, up-to-date and dynamic information is shown, live music player, webcam picture stream and mobile device detection, this website was, at the time, the biggest and most complex I had made! GU2 Radio has since rebranded to Stag Radio and launched a new website when a new committee took over.

Jo, the founder of Enhancing Young Adults' Indepndence (EYAI), came to me with a designer, wanting a quick and easy website, with a content management system. I worked with the designer to create the basic website template and then implemented a content management system to allow EYAI staff to update content.

After getting many quotes, GMB Leisure decided to come to me because I offered the best price and kept things simple. This site boasts multiple email subscription tools, a Contact Us page, a page where users can upload their CV if they are interested in applying for a job. All forms have complete validation and there is also a custom content management system.

Having already created The Sales Agent website for Kam, he wanted another website for his freelance DJ work. He liked the template he already had, so it was up to me to create another new website with it, including responsive Google Maps and a booking form.

During my time as a Software Engineer at JDA (then known as RedPrairie), I worked on bespoke versions of the company's Dispatcher application, used by blue-chip companies across the UK to manage inventory in their warehouses. This included both the Java web-app and the C app running on radio data terminals.
